Flyer Base Spotter
Start from Free Bird. Take Flyer into Freebird pose. Ask on which side the sidestar will be happening and stand on this side.
Switch the grip and cross hands over using the peace-finger-grip. If your right hand is on top you will turn to the right and vice versa. To do it like in the video: right hand up. Switch the grip and cross hands over using the peace-finger-grip. If your right hand is on top you will turn to the right and vice versa. To do it like in the video: right hand up. Have your hands on Flyer’s hips guiding them up from sidestar to star always ready to catch Flyer or help Flyer get down on his/her feet.
Come into a sidestar on your left hip and offer Base your shoulders already twisting your upper body star position in mind. Take Flyer into a sidestar on your right foot, leg extended. Once Flyer is in star stand at Flyers back hands on hips. Again follow Flyers movement down at the back, on the hips.
Wait till Base places Foot on your shoulder and gets stable back in axis. Try to keep the axis while bending your left foot and placing the toes of it on the shoulder Flyer presents to you. Sometimes you can help Flyers orientate themselves in space by indicating which way they have to turn.
Push into the arms (elbows in and bent tripod style) while you shift all your weight on the one foot catching you at your shoulder. Move your legs first and follow with your hips. Thereby, try to stay in line with your hips (not backbending). Arms are activated and you wait for Flyer to initiate the movement. Don’t try to push too early but wait for the weight to come. Then push Flyer up into star position add the second foot.
Let Base push you up to star position. Indicate Flyer which foot you going to take away by squeezing the hand on this side. In the video, the left foot gets removed.
Once base has indicated which foot will leave shift all your weight slowly into the other foot. Keep a straddle pike and start slowly rotating towards the side you are turning to. Turn the Flyer as much as possible with the foot he/she is still on. Turn the flyer by using your ankle and hip rotation. In the video, we turn counter clockwise.
Press in hands (lines! Elbows in!) and engage core, hips stay in line. Give your Flyers strong arms and nice lines while you lower Flyer down and catch Flyers leg (the one further away, in the video it's right hip of the flyer) in a side star (toes outside!) In this step don’t forget to keep your arms strong.
Once you feel Base’s foot on your hips role into a sidestar first and back to bird pressing into arms. Catch Flyers other hip (in the video left hip on the right side) in Bird pose.
